Publications

HILA see its publications as a powerful tool for influence and change and believe that knowledge is power. One of our goals is to increase parents’ and students' awareness of their rights. Therefore we invest efforts in preparatory researches and translation of publications to Amharic for Ethiopian immigrants and to Arabic for Arab parents.

Throughout the years, HILA issued several publications, including periodicals and information leaflets in Hebrew, Arabic and Amharic - "A Parents' Guide to Education"; "Hebrew-Amharic Phrasebook on Education", parental guidance videocassettes, pamphlets and more.

The Information Sheets include relevant laws and regulations alongside recommendations as to efficient realization of parents' rights in the education system. The information is presented in a simple and clear language, which enables every literate parent to realize his or her rights. They are distributed free of charge mainly among parents.

So far, Information Leaflets and booklets in Hebrew, Arabic and Amharic were published on several topic, including:

Entitlement to matriculation certificate - this Information Sheet describes the acceptable matriculation certificate format in higher education institutions and includes list of recommendations for parents interested in placing their children in frameworks that would lead to University education.

Parents in the Pedagogical Council - Includes information regarding the pedagogical council, its role, its composition, its members' roles and possible ways to influence its decisions.

The Right for Regular Education - A booklet that contains all the rules and regulations regarding placement in Special Education frameworks and instructs parents how to become involved in the decisions making.

School Curriculum - Parents guidelines how to oversee and follow the schools curriculum, including contents, hours per topic and textbooks.

Immigrant Students' Rights in the Education System - an information booklet, which includes all the immigrant students' rights in the education system.
